2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
Self Exams
No one enjoys taking exams. However, it is required of everyone. A much easier method is to take a self exam and regularly inspect our own heart. In doing this, we assess our mindset and attitude towards the commandments found in the scriptures. Does our attitude and mindset line up and match easily? Are we compromising or resisting anything that God says in His Word for our life? Self examination eliminates the discomfort of having the Father expose us in the open. This shortens the time spent in the wilderness by building godly character and bringing each one closer to the Promised Land. If the Israelites had examined their own hearts, they would have reduced their time in the wilderness. It took the Israelites 40 years to make an 11 day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. Their hearts were not in right standing with God. Complaining and ungrateful hearts undermined their faith. Allowing unbelief to enter kept them in the wilderness.
1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
Judgment of Our Heart Condition
One day everyone will individually stand before Almighty God. At that time, He will evaluate the condition of each heart and appraise its true motives. He will be the judge and jury. It is necessary to attain a pure heart so that on that day, we will hear the Lord say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” This statement of approval will bring indescribable joy. What a glorious day it will be, for we brought glory and honor to God by fulfilling His purpose.
